MUSICIAN SPOTLIGHT
Syd is a classically trained violinist and pianist, and sound designer. Having recently completed an MA in Sound Design, Syd is currently training to be a sound engineer with the BBC.

“I like using the widest and weirdest range of sounds possible! I focus partly on exploring those sounds in our environment that generally remain hidden to us during everyday life, using atypical recording methods. A lot of my samples are sourced using a range of EMF pickups, hydro- and geophones, and ultrasonic mics.
I also like to centre specifically human sounds in my pieces, and contrast all of these more ‘noise’-based sounds with more traditionally ‘musical’ and instrumental ones.”
